Open Question: What are my chances of getting into University of Washington?

29 July 2010, 9:29 am

I'm going to be starting my junior year soon, and I want to know if I should even bother pursuing UW. It's my dream school, but I do have a back-up plan. I want to double major in Music Performance (Voice) and Music Education. Here's my classes: Freshman Biology/Honors Biology (I switched halfway through the year, and I failed Honors Bio. I'm making it up) World History Honors Fr. English Geometry Orchestra French 1 PE Current Social Issues (1 semester) Design (1 semester, prerequisite for all art) Sophomore Chemistry Pre-AP Soph. English (I failed first semester. I told them I wanted honors, not PAP...again, making it up.) Pre-AP US History (1 semester class) Algebra 2 Women's Chorus Drawing/Adv. Drawing (each 1 semester) French 2 Foods 1 (1 semester) Proctor for Counseling/Advising Center (I ran call slips and filed. 1 semester) Psychology (1 semester) Planned Junior Classes Physics Pre-AP Jun. English (honors with a new name) AP US History Functions, Stats, Trig (1 class) Madrigals (elite chamber choir) Robed Choir (the main choir) French 3 Acting 1 (1 semester, required to graduate) Consumer Skills (1 semester, same story) Planned Senior Classes Senior Comp./Mythology (each 1 semester, fills my English requirements to graduate) Pre-Calculus Zoology 1 & 2 (each 1 semester) US Govt. (1 semester) Madrigals Robed Choir Music Theory (maybe AP) Integrated Computer Applications (1 semester, required) French 4 I maintain about a 3.4 GPA, and I'll probably get at least a 25 on my ACT, probably higher. My EC includes President of Anime Club Sophomore year (hopefully beyond), Choir Competitions (we got all 1s, which are the best), French Contest (placed 1st in state both years, 7th and then 8th nationally. I'm taking it every year), extensive Madrigals performances, orchestra pit for school musical Fr. year, 1st chair of 2nd violins Fr. year, and awards from high scores on state assessments. Here's the kicker: I'm from Kansas. Out-of-state acceptance, I've heard, is low. So, give it to me straight. Would I get in?... Read More »
